TODAY'S HIGHLIGHTS

Liv Ullmann
Liv Ullmann

Tonight at Gusman, the Festival honors the incomparable Liv Ullmann with its Career Achievement Tribute, followed by the screening of Ingmar Bergman’s SARABAND, the sequel to Scenes from a Marriage. Don’t miss this special event. The Festival thanks Chrysler for sponsoring the pre-Tribute reception.

At Regal, UNDER THE DARK SKY OF THE NATION by Bo Harringer and Renzo Aneröd makes its international premiere. Luis Ospina’s THE SUPREME UNEASINESS is a portrait of the controversial Colombian author Fernando Vallejo. And there’s THE UNTOLD STORY OF EMMETT LOUIS TILL (Keith Beauchamp), so powerful it helped re-open the investigation into Till’s unsolved murder.

Elsewhere, catch LA CÁRCEL DE LA VICTORIA: THE FOURTH MAN at the Tower Theater. Directed by Jose E. Pintor, it’s the story of an upper-class Spanish immigrant who goes to prison to find his son’s murderer and take revenge. At Cosford . . . See MITCHELLVILLE, John D. Harkrider’s thought-provoking debut. And as the perfect complement to Sunday’s concert, see SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK: RAISE YOUR VOICE by Stanley Nelson, MacArthur “genius” fellow and award-winning documentarian.

At the Intracoastal, one family makes a hapless journey across Argentina for a wedding in ROLLING FAMILY by Pablo Trapero. And in Konrad Niewolski’s SYMMETRY, a young man falsely accused of a crime learns prison survival.

In the audience: Mario Perez (La Cárcel de la Victoria); Luis Ospina (The Supreme Uneasiness); Konrad Niewolski (Symmetry); Bo Harringer and Renzo Aneröd (Under the Dark Sky of the Nation); and Keith Beauchamp and Steven Laitmon (The Untold Story of Emmett Till).
