Queen of Versailles & Director Lauren Greenfield

THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES
directed by Lauren Greenfield
Documentary | 2012 | 100 min.

A fairy tale saga crashes into the cruel reality of the current Florida real-estate crisis.  David Siegel makes an absolute fortune selling timeshares for people seeking a lavish lifestyle while on vacation.  With his billions and inspired by the Palace of Versailles in France, he decides to build the biggest house in America for his wife Jackie, a former Mrs. Florida, and their eight children, resulting in a 90,000 square foot mansion in Orlando, Florida.

Just like in Cinderella, the clock has struck midnight and the Siegels find themselves in a losing battle against the banking institutions that once helped them construct their empire.  Jackie has a very hard time adjusting to a new life without her team of maids and drivers.  The kids are forced to switch from private to public schools, while David appears to drown in work and depression during this trying period.

Lauren Greenfield’s candid documentary depicts the character of the Siegel family, which is fueled by ambition, luxury and desire, mixed with a refreshingly unpretentious and humble nature, as they endure the bumpiest ride of their lives.

Palace of Versailles

Send us a brief written description, a sketch -or- a photographic image with a brilliant caption detailing your "Dream Home". Where would it be? What would it look like? How many rooms would it have? Would it be as monumental as David & Jackie Siegel's 90,000 sq. ft. dream home, modeled after the magnificent Palace of Versailles in France, as seen in the upcoming presentation, The Queen of Versailles?

Please email entries to info@miamifilmfestival.com and include your name and phone number. Entries must by submitted no later than Monday, May 14th at 5:00 pm. The most imaginative entry shall be selected by a MIFF review committee and will win the prize package detailed below.

The WINNER will be notified by 12 noon on Tuesday, May 15th and will receive:

  • $225 credit from MIFF towards the purchase of a new (or renewing) Film Connoisseur level membership in the Miami Film Society for the 2012-13 season (or a $225 credit towards the cost of any higher level membership tier.)
  • Two (2) tickets to The Queen of Versailles screening on Wednesday, May 16th at MDC's Tower Theater and MIFF's monthly screening in June (Date/Title TBD).
  • Name and excerpts of your "Dream Home" will be published in the May 18th edition of the Festival's Insider e-newsletter.
MIFF reserves the right not to award a winner, should no qualified entries be received.
